Cohesive Home Builders is a new company built on a decade of experience crafting custom homes. Our foundation is simple: exceptional quality, thoughtful craftsmanship, and an attention to detail that lasts well beyond the build.
As we look toward the future, we’re shifting the focus of custom homebuilding toward a more considered approach—prioritizing sustainable building practices, natural materials, energy efficiency, and homes that blend into their surroundings rather than compete with them.

Our Story
San Juan Island wasn’t somewhere I discovered as an adult or chose because it was a beautiful place to build houses, I grew up here. It shaped me.
I grew up with its wet winters and dry summers. Its forests, fields and exposed rock. The ferries. The limitations of living on an island. The value of water, land and resources that are easy to take for granted somewhere else.
Later, I spent more than a decade working in the trades. I learned construction from the inside out—how a home actually comes together, how one trade affects the next, and how decisions that seem insignificant during construction can determine how a house performs ten or twenty years later.
Eventually, I became the general contractor for my own family’s home and ADU, and when you’re building the place where your own family will live, the questions become different.
Because the land already has a design, every property on San Juan Island tells you something if you’re willing to listen before you build.
Ten years in the trades taught me something else.
Quality isn’t created at the end. By the time beautiful cabinetry, stone and fixtures arrive, many of the decisions that determine the quality of a home have already been covered up. They’re behind the walls, under the foundation, around the windows, inside the roof, buried beneath the landscape. That’s why I care as much about the parts of a house you’ll never see as the parts you will. Because years from now, you probably won’t remember how we detailed a drainage plane or why we changed the orientation of a wall.
You shouldn’t have to.
You’ll experience those decisions differently. You’ll experience them when the storm outside is loud but your home isn’t. When the power goes out and essential systems continue running. When your family gathers beside a wall of glass in January and nobody moves away from it because they’re cold. When the landscape you fell in love with is still there because we designed around it instead of through it. When the home ages gracefully rather than beginning a cycle of repairs.
And someday, perhaps when someone else is caring for the home, the decisions made during its construction will still be doing their job.
That’s what I want to leave behind.
Not simply beautiful houses, but homes that belong here.
Homes that work with this island rather than asking the island to work around them.
Homes built thoughtfully enough that the people who live in them can spend less time thinking about the house, and more time enjoying the reason they chose to live here in the first place.
